BBQ & Grill Catering in Nags Head & the Outer Banks

Low-country boils, oyster roasts, and on-site grilling for vacation groups and Outer Banks gatherings — local seafood, cooked where you are.

If you own property in Nags Head, you already know the Outer Banks is a different animal. Seasonal turnover, nor’easters, and sandy soils mean private chef problems show up faster and cost more when they’re ignored. We’re a local Nags Head crew that lives with the same conditions you do — and we answer the phone when you call.

Outdoor cooking done on your site

A low-country boil or an oyster roast is food that has to be cooked where it’s eaten — you can’t transport a boil and reheat it and call it the same meal. We bring the burner, the pot, the steam pan, and the local seafood, and we cook it at your house or rental so it hits the table at the right temperature and the right texture. On the Outer Banks, that’s how the best meals happen.

We handle the whole production — setup, cooking, serving, and the cleanup of the cook gear — so you host the party and we run the back of house. Your kitchen stays clean; your guests stay fed.

Local seafood, sourced the morning of

Shrimp right off the boats in Wanchese, oysters in season, whatever finfish is landing that day. We buy the morning we cook, so the seafood in your boil was caught that week, not thawed from a box. The Outer Banks is one of the few places left where that’s actually possible, and it’s the reason a boil here doesn’t taste like a boil anywhere else.

We’ll tell you what’s best and build the boil or roast around it — sometimes that’s shrimp and corn and potatoes, sometimes it’s clams and sausage, sometimes the oysters are so good we make them the whole show.

Group sizes and setups

We feed groups from ten to a hundred. A boil for a week’s worth of your extended family at a Corolla rental, an oyster roast for a rehearsal dinner, a grill station for a neighborhood party — the format flexes to the crowd. We bring tables and serving setup where the site allows, and we work with whatever deck or yard you have.

For larger events we bring a second set of hands for service and cleanup so the cooking never slows down and the host is never stuck with a mountain of pots at midnight.

Pricing and booking

BBQ and boil catering is priced per person plus seafood at market. Setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup of cook gear are included. Seafood markets move daily, so we quote the final number a few days out once we know what’s running and what it’s selling for. Book early for summer weekends — the local fish houses only land so much, and the boats don’t take reservations.

A small deposit holds the date; the balance is due after we cook. We’ll work with your venue or rental company if they need proof of insurance or a COI.

What to expect on the day of your bbq & grill catering

When you call, we’ll ask a few quick questions about the job, the property, and the timing, and give you a real window for the visit — not a vague “sometime between 8 and 5.” On the day, we show up when we said we would, do the work we quoted, and clean up after ourselves before we leave. You get a written record of what was done, what we found, and what — if anything — you should keep an eye on down the road. If something about the job changes once we’re on site, we tell you and re-quote before we do the extra work. No surprises on the invoice, ever.

  • We confirm the appointment and a tight arrival window the day before.
  • We arrive with the right equipment and parts for the job.
  • We do the work to the scope we quoted and document what we find.
  • We clean up and leave a written record of the service.

What affects the cost of private chef in Nags Head

  • Group size and courses — a plated five-course dinner costs more than a family meal prep.
  • Ingredient cost at market — local seafood is priced at what the boats are landing that week.
  • Whether you want wine pairing, a cake, or a specific specialty item.
  • Travel to your rental and the kitchen setup required.
  • Off-season and weekday dates are often less than Saturday nights in July.

How our private chef process works

  • Tell us the date, the group, the occasion, and every dietary need.
  • We send a proposed menu and adjust it with you until it’s right.
  • We shop the morning of, sourcing local seafood and produce.
  • We cook, plate or serve, and clean the kitchen down before we leave.

Signs you may need this service

  • You want a special meal without driving to a restaurant on a busy night.
  • Your group has allergies or diets that make a restaurant reservation a gamble.
  • It’s an anniversary, birthday, or rehearsal dinner that deserves a private setting.
  • You want day one of vacation to start on the beach, not at the grocery store.

How to choose a private chef company on the Outer Banks

If you’re comparing quotes for bbq & grill catering, here’s what we’d tell a neighbor to ask before they hire anyone — the same questions we’d want asked of us. When you’re choosing a private chef on the Outer Banks, ask where they source — a real local chef buys from the Nags Head and Wanchese fish houses and the local farm stands in season, and will tell you what’s actually fresh that week rather than promise a fixed menu shipped from the mainland. Ask whether the price includes the groceries at cost or marked up, whether service and full cleanup are included, and how they handle the allergies at your table — not in a form, but in the cooking. A good chef sends a proposed menu, adjusts it with you, and cooks to order in your kitchen. A red flag is a chef who won’t talk through the menu, who marks up the groceries, or who shows up with pre-made food to reheat. The meal should taste like the Outer Banks, and the kitchen should be clean when they leave.

Why a local Outer Banks crew matters for this work

The Outer Banks isn’t the mainland, and private chef done here has to account for barrier-island conditions the inland doesn’t see — salt air, a high water table, wind tides, seasonal rental overload, and named storms that show up faster than the weather app suggests. A local Nags Head crew knows which neighborhoods have which soil, which lots flood at a normal high tide, and which conditions age your private chef faster than the manual says. We also get back to you quickly in July when a mainland company can’t — because we’re already here, on the island, working every week. That local knowledge is the difference between a fix that lasts and one that fails next season.

Serving Nags Head and the surrounding Outer Banks

We base our private chef operation in Nags Head and run service calls across Kitty Hawk, Duck and the rest of the northern Outer Banks every week. Because we’re local, we can be at your property faster than a mainland company that has to drive out — and we’re here for the follow-up if something needs a second look. If you’re anywhere on the barrier island, give us a call and we’ll tell you whether you’re in our regular route.

The bottom line for Nags Head property owners: Private Chef is cheaper to stay ahead of than to fix after it fails. We serve Nags Head and Kitty Hawk, Duck every week, and we’d rather do a $300 maintenance visit today than a $3,000 emergency call next month. Call us — we’ll tell you which one you actually need.
